Drs. Mamie and Kenneth Clark are renowned for their groundbreaking Doll Test, which played a pivotal role in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. The couple also notably hosted one of the Little Rock Nine high school students, Minnijean Brown-Trickey, in their home in Hastings. The exhibition boards were showcased for a brief period at other various local institutions.

Mood Boards: Visual Explorations
Working closely with the committee, I explored a range of visual directions. From the start, the aimed was to avoid black-and-white tropes and dated 1960s-style motifs, instead embracing a visual language that reflects joy, progress, education and family. The jubilant use of color emerged as the strongest direction.
With a final palette centered on purple for wisdom and imagination, red and orange for energy and connection, and a radiant halo of yellow and turquoise symbolizing optimism and clarity, the visual direction reflects the vibrant spirit of the community—rooted in progress, guided by learning and illuminated by joy.

Below are selections from the initial round of mood boards, style references, and visual inspiration developed for The Clark Project. Collaborating closely with the committee, I led the creative direction—refining the aesthetic and aligning the visual language to arrive at the final concept shown above
